This month’s exhibition is Body in Times by Katrin Feldhus.

Katrin explores the relation between self-perception and mental health in good and bad times. The four variables of good times, bad times, healthy mind and ill mind affect how we perceive ourselves and this is reflected in a variety of perceived bodily shapes.

The exhibition itself embodies the artist’s overall enjoyment of life with all its good and bad offerings over a period of two decades. The paintings are never sad but telling and colourful whereas the bodies have many shapes, with some being displaced, morphed or melted.

Katrin Feldhus has been using art to voice the experience of domestic abuse victims over the past few years, especially the emotional and mental effects. The emotional involvement of the artist in the painting process reflects how, at times, emotions can be remotely controlled by the degree of continuous harassment by the ex partner. Despite the difficulties this may add to daily live, it also provides many emotional resources for creativity and thus delivers a deeper fulfillment for the artist, ironically.
