Event Details

Two artists come to the cornerHOUSE in February with their paintings and photographs.
Maria Virginia Cheli’s acrylics on canvas form an exhibition called Women in Dreamy Nature.
“This exhibition explores the world of women and their dreams, their longing for peace in current times, said Maria, a young Italian-Argentinian artist. Women seek shelter in nature, going away from stress and everyday threats, to find themselves.”
Maria’s work focuses on Italian women as strong objects and is highlighted by bright and cheerful Latin-American colours.
Milena Cull’s photographs form an exhibition called Tales of India: Glances and Encounters.
“India is a vast country, home to a great variety of people of many different cultures, said Milena. The aim of this exhibition is to show India through a series of portraits of local people. These photos give you a broader view of the daily life of India.”
The exhibitions run from Sunday, February 2 to Sunday, March 2. Everyone is invited to the gala night at the cornerHOUSE in Douglas Road, Surbiton, on Wednesday, February 12 at 7pm.

About Maria

Maria Virginia Cheli is a young Italian-Argentinian artist who graduated at the Università Nazionale di Tucuman. Born in San Miguel de Tucuman, she grew up in a family of Italian painters who had emigrated to Argentina.

Trained at Nelida Rosa Lanati’s Atelier, Maria learned to use colours and forms through realistic and classic techniques. She worked with Master Carlos Ignacio Legorburu on shade techniques and oil painting.
After moving to Europe she changed her style and started using new materials – acrylic – and techniques, adopting much more vivid colours. In Italy she studied sculpture, making extensive use of the shapes of the human body in her work.
In recent years, Maria Virginia Cheli has focused primarily on women in real situations and women in dreams. Her Latin American roots are well represented in the colours, the forms and the iconographies she uses.

About Milena

Milena Cull was born in Italy into a family of fine art painters. Growing up watching her father paint, she quickly became skilled at drawing portraits.

Milena became a photographer and founded her own studio when she realised that with a camera she could not only capture a better depth of facial expressions but she could also interact with people from all walks of life.
Milena is a mother of two sons and a true citizen of the world having lived and worked in every continent.

Paintings and photographs in the exhibition are for sale.
