Jerome Kern once famously said of his fellow composer: ‘Irving Berlin has no place in American music – he is American music!’ The same could perhaps have been said of him, or of George Gershwin, Cole Porter or Rodgers & Hammerstein – and all those wonderful songwriters are the subjects of an illustrated talk at the Cornerhouse by Simon Hancock on Wednesday June 2^nd. Simon will speak about the lives of these Broadway ‘greats’ and sing songs by each of them, with a special guest appearance from the ‘Sinatra of Surbiton’, Jason Philps!
